The Sightreading Project
A year-long project during the first year of the graduate program. The intention was to create a sight-reading program that would be taught alongside the beginner year of learning to play their instruments.. The process is meant to mirror a similar way to how students learn to read by introducing concepts in smaller pieces that slowly scaffolded together. It begins with alphabetical letters on a staff (something familiar) rather than notes or noteheads to start with teaching the physical skills of reading music without being as daunting as music notes from the beginning. The program progressively increases rigor and more challenging sightreading excerpts.
